A new California-based website branded Addicted.com is offering 24/7online support and recovery resources for addictive gambling and other disorders, helping addicts and their families.
The site features a panel of doctors and other professionals that specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of problems such as eating disorders, gambling, sexual addiction and drug and alcohol abuse.
Addicted.com offers people seeking help a Zip Code Locator which visitors can use to find nearby recovery centres, doctors, counsellors and other assistance.
Other features include AddictedTube, which allows visitors to view and share addiction-related videos. AddictedSpace is another valuable feature where members can share progress on recovery, ask for help, and share stories of addiction and rehabilitation.
The innovative aspect of this website is its comprehensive content. Along with AddictedSpace and AddictedTube, visitors can take addiction self-tests to help determine whether they have an addiction and may need to seek help. Articles, advice, experts and other resources give users the option of complete anonymity if they are seeking resources but aren't ready to share their story with the world.
Addiction.com was originally planned to be an addiction treatment referral service. After realising that the site could offer much more, co-founder John S. Shegerian, a successful entrepreneur and former addict himself expanded the site to include these additional features. To add further in-depth assistance, addicted.com added an online "Aftercare" program, designed to continue giving support to addicts after their treatment has ended.
