Reports in online news media that London terrorists used Betfair to launder cash are strongly denied

Reports in online news media earlier this week that claiming that Islamic terrorists laundered money through its site, were challenged by the Betfair betting exchange today (Thursday) as 'simply incorrect'.

A statement from the betting exchange said that although a number of attempts were made to use its site fraudulently, these were identified, the accounts were closed and all relevant information was shared with the police.

"It is simply incorrect to say in respect of Betfair that "winnings were withdrawn and transferred to online bank accounts under their [the terrorists] control'," Betfair said.

News started circulating in sportsbetting media early last week that Tariq Al-Dour, Waseem Mughal and Younis Tsouli, who were all found guilty in the UK of using the Internet to incite terrorism, had laundered money through at least twelve online gaming sites to fund terror activities.

Betfair was among the sites named in the unsourced reports.
