74 years ago, the US government started dismantling a hugely unpopular law.one rather like the UIGEA!

Americans who appreciate the values of choice and personal responsibility raised a glass this week to the beginning of the end for the notorious Volstead Act, which like the modern day Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act tried to deprive online gamblers in the USA of their right to select a legal leisure pastime.

This week marks the 74th anniversary of the first step in repealing the massively unpopular U.S. prohibition on alcohol. On April 7th, 1933, .032 percent beer became legal again, thanks to a more sensible approach by the government of the day headed by Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

It took a while longer for the full repeal of the insidious Volstead Act, but this revision marked the beginning of a return to freedom of choice and an end to the organised crime involvement in America's other favourite pastime, which followed the introduction of Prohibition.

To quote one wag: "Tonight is Brew Year's Eve! Sit back, open a cold one and look forward to the day we can say the same about Frist's Folly!
